Spinal Decompression for Chronic Back Pain

LEVOSCOLIOSIS WITH SCIATICA

A male patient aged about 37 years with history of chronic low back pain,
radiating pain to both the legs posteriorly and numbness of the left foot
more on the sole of the foot. The patient had difficulty in walking (could
not walk for more than a furlong) & could not stand for than 10 minutes.

He had previously consulted several general physicians, tried over-the-counter medications, and underwent multiple lab tests without receiving a conclusive diagnosis or relief.

On examination, it was found that the patient had severe pain in his
L4-L5 levels, radiating pain along both the buttocks, back of thighs and
calf muscles going up to the sole of the left foot. His Trendelenburg test
was positive and the patient was in severe pain and spasm of the lumbar
muscles.

Diagnostic Process:

X-Ray of the Lumbo sacral spine:

The x-ray revealed that there was decreased intervertebral space between L4 and L5 vertebra, with a possibility of disc bulge and nerve root compression, which was clinically corelated.

IQ3:

With the help of IQ3 we were able to see the L4-L5 mild disc bulge and lateral disc protrusion probably intending the thecal sac causing nerve root compression which corelated clinically.

A personalized treatment protocol was designed, including:

Marma Bandhana Chikitsa for approximately 20 sittings (Bi-weekly). The patient was advised with Marma Bandana, ayurvedic Medicinal applications, bandaging along with clinically tested ayurvedic medicines and supplements given orally and for local applications during the course of treatment only

At the end of the treatment the patient was free of pain by about 90%
and the patient had restored posture balance, could walk freely without
pain and numbness. The patient can lead a normal life going about his
daily chores. Lumbar exercises were taught to strengthen the low back.
